RANGELY I The Rangely High School boys’ basketball team will open its season with a new head coach in the White River Electric Association’s Cowboy Shootout tournament in Meeker, starting tonight.
Kyle Boydstun, who has several years of coaching experience, will take over the head coaching duties for the RHS Panthers.
“We’re not real big, but we have some speed,” coach Boydstun said of his new team.
The Panthers take to the court today in an exhibition game against the Rams from South Routt County (Soroco) with a 6 p.m. tipoff scheduled.
Rangely will receive a first round bye, automatically advancing to the semifinals, where they will play the winner between Hayden and Fruita Monument’s JV on Friday at 6 p.m.
“We’re pretty young,” coach Boydstun said of his new team, with only one senior, Kaulan Brady, leading 17 others. “We also have junior Troy Allred and sophomore Patrick Scoggins with varsity experience.”
“This will be a good test of our basketball knowledge,” coach Boydstun said.
