The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
• P.F. Welch has sold his saloon business to John C. Richardson of Glenwood, T.A. House and H.W. Gifford of Rifle.
• Luther Dennison of Rocky Ford and Meeker today rode the bucking bull and won the $100 purse offered for this feat.
• Preparations for resuming work on the Union Oil well No. 2 are now in progress.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• A total of 163 students started the school year at Meeker High School. For all the district’s schools, the opening day’s total was 695 students.
• Cowboys take on Carbondale in home game tomorrow night.
• Cowboys dump Hayden easily 30-0 in 1960 grid debut.
• Labor Day was quite a busy day at the Meeker airport. Walter Weiss of Rangely soloed for the first time that day which is always quite and event in every new pilots life.
• Take a gallon home tonight! Wilson’s A&W Root Beer, 75 cents a gallon. Phone 570.

• After almost a month in the area, United Paving crews finished the link between Third Street and Sulphur Creek Road in Sanderson Hills.
• Eastern Star hold officer installation meeting; historical society holds Labor Day meeting, County Weed Association meeting.
• Meeker Golf Course pro Dan Karraker resigns after nine years.
• Big plays and good defense key Cowboys 16-6 win over Eagle Valley.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• The question of establishing a junior college will, in all probability, come before the voters in Spring 1961.
• Weather review for Sept. 6, 1960: High, 78 degrees and low, 48.
• “You can go a long way without finding better opportunities than those in Rangely.” From the owner and publisher, B.F. Yaeger.

• CNCC enrollment continues to rise. The number of full-time registered students so far, 329.
• The Rangely Area Child Care Center opened in August and has been a great success. Attendance has averaged 18 children per day with 41 registered.
• Dinosaur hunter safety class announced.
• The Panther football team started off right last week by defeating the Altamont Longhorns 19-0.
• Montgomery Ward sight ‘n’ sound sale! 4-way stereo system: AM/FM receiver, cassette recorder with built-in ALC, 8-track player, full-size semi-automatic turntable with dust cover. $149.88.

Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• William Jolley opens funeral office in Rangely.
• Scott McInnis was honored as Representative of the Year by the United Veterans’ Committee.
• “Potholes to be addressed.”
• The Rangely football team had not beaten the Meeker Cowboys in ten years. The score at the end of the 1990 game was Rangely 42, Meeker 12.
