RANGELY I The Rangely Middle School boys’ basketball program got their season off on the winning foot against Meeker on Thursday, Oct. 25. All three teams came out victorious against the Cowboys with the 7B team winning 14-7.
AJ Lujan and Marshall Webber were the top scorers for the Panthers in the game. During the 7A game Patrick Scoggins had a team high 31 points as the Panthers beat the Cowboys 45-15. During the eighth grade game the Panthers came out on top 26-21 with Anthony Martin as the leader in scoring with 12 points.
With a 1-0 record for each of the Panther teams, they took on Steamboat Middle School on Friday, Oct. 26 in Steamboat. The 7B team lost their game 24-6 with AJ Lujan scoring all of the points for the Panthers. The 7A team also lost their match against the Sailors. Patrick Scoggins scored a team high 10 points for the Panthers in the close game. The eighth grade team also lost their game 35-12 against the Sailors.
The Panthers were able to get back on the winning foot against the Hayden Tigers in Hayden on Thursday, Nov. 1. There were only two games since Hayden only had a seventh and an eighth grade team. The seventh grade team came out victorious against the Tigers 43-9 as Patrick Scoggins scored a team high 17 points. Also Kobe Broom was able to take a shot from four steps in from the half court line and sink it just as time expired in the first half of the game. The eighth grade team was also able to take care of business by winning 40-7. Anthony Martin led the team in scoring again against the Tigers with 14 points.
On Saturday, Nov. 3 Rangely traveled to Craig to take on the Bulldogs. The 7A team got the team rolling on the right foot with a victory over Craig 27-13. Patrick Scoggins once again led the team in scoring with 12 points. The 7B lost their game to Craig with a score of 11-1. CJ Lucero was the leading scorer for the Panthers with one point. The eighth grade team played two games against Craig. They lost their first game with a score of 20-5 and won their second game with a score of 17-16. Rangely Middle School will host Meeker at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 and Steamboat beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
