Sun brings out golfers, wind challenges them

The sun came out and with it, the golfers, to both courses in Rio Blanco County.
The 27-hole, Berry Brothers two-man scramble tournament, was followed by the annual two-man scramble last Sunday at the Meeker Golf Course.
Funds for the Rangely volleyball team and boys’ basketball team were being raised in the Rumble at the Ridges at Cedar Ridges Golf Course.
Terrell Lowry teamed up with Chris and Eric Hejl to win the first tournament of the season. Meeker’s Lex Collins, Bryce Ducey and Pat Hughes finished second.
George Kuck and Greg Ackerman were the best golfers on Meeker’s course last Saturday, winning the the Berry Brothers tournament with a gross score of 104. Shiloh May and Donald Blazon finished the 27 holes with the best net score of 86.
“I had the club champ on my team,” J.C. Watt said of his partner Matt Fellows, the Meeker men’s club defending champion.
The pair finished the 27 holes, with a six-under par 96, giving perennial winners Erik Brown and Lex Collins second place, one stroke behind, while Ducey and Rangely’s Robbie Elam turned in a 99 for third.
Dave Brown and Pat Walsh also had a gross score of 99 but took first place net honors, with a net score of 85. Hughes and Chris Hejl tied with Don McPherson and Mike Thorsby for the second best net score of 87.
The fourth annual Bob Tucker Memorial four-person scramble tournament will be played this Saturday in Meeker and Bernie’s Tourney, also a four-person scramble, will be played on the Cedar Ridges course.
