Youth win ‘gold’ present program

MEEKER — Jessica Mullins and Logan Sanderson represented Meeker High School at the state FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competition held in Vail April 20-22. They competed against 170 other high schools (large and small) across the state and brought home the “gold” in the Web site development competition. They will now represent the state of Colorado at the National FBLA Conference in Atlanta, Ga., in late June.
The duo will share their winning presentation with the public Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at Mountain Valley Bank. Refreshments will be served.
The project theme for 2008 was to develop a Web site to advertise a local event that takes place in your community and Mullins and Sanderson showcased the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials. Their project spanned several months and included countless hours of research, compilation and design. They attended the event last September, shot additional video footage and the fruits of their labor were realized by winning the state competition. It should be noted that all high schools, regardless of size, compete in the same division at the state FBLA competition. Not only does this speak well for these talented youth, but also for the guidance and support from the technology department at Meeker High School.
The costs involved in sending Mullins and Sanderson and one sponsor to the National FBLA Competition is approximately $6,500. Though this is a school- sponsored organization, there are no funds in the budget for this expense. Donations and contributions for their travel costs are being accepted at Meeker High School.
Join us Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m., as the Meeker Classic board of directors hosts an opportunity for Mullins and Sanderson to showcase their presentation to the local community. Come offer your congratulations and support to these local youth as they prepare to showcase our community at the national level.
