RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers high school wrestling team kicked off the new year by hosting a dual against Glenwood Springs High School on Jan. 3, 2025. Despite a strong effort, the Panthers fell to the Demons, 30-24.

The dual began with Glenwood Springs’ Carlos Landeros (106 pounds) defeating Blaine Stevens of Rangely. The Panthers tied it up when Cameron Preciado (113 pounds) earned a victory over Glenwood’s Eli Cuc.

The 120-pound weight class resulted in a double forfeit, but Rangely took the lead at 126 pounds with Aydan Christian securing a win. Another double forfeit occurred at 130 pounds before Rangely’s Davon Lucero won the 138-pound match.

At 144 pounds, Jordan Irwin defeated Kenai Kellogg to give the Panthers a 24-6 lead. However, Rangely dropped the next two matches, bringing the score to 24-18. Double forfeits at 165 and 175 pounds kept the match close.

In the 190-pound division, Glenwood Springs earned a win by forfeit, tying the score at 24. With no 215-pound competitors on either team, the dual came down to the heavyweight match. Glenwood Springs claimed the victory by forfeit, clinching the dual with a 30-24 win.

On Jan. 4, Rangely hosted its annual home wrestling tournament. Aydan Christian (126 pounds) placed second, securing the 100th win of his high school wrestling career during the tournament. Congratulations to Christian on this milestone achievement!

Meanwhile, Cameron Preciado (113 pounds), Davon Lucero (138 pounds), and Jordan Irwin (144 pounds) each earned third-place finishes.

The Panthers will travel to Steamboat Springs High School on Jan. 9 for a triangular dual against Steamboat Springs and Coal Ridge. The team will then compete in the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, from Jan. 10-11.

Good luck to the Panthers this weekend!
