n Meeker dentist Dr. Charles Vandiver survived a 500 foot fall down the side of a mountain while snowmobiling near North Fork campgrounds east of Meeker.
n Thirteen MHS band and choir members and instructor Tom Allen took part in the Solo and Ensemble contest in Glenwood Springs. Lynn Thayer, Lori Carver, Bobbi Jo Tucker, Tina Ellis, Cindy Lugenbeel, Carla Rodriguez, Melanie Watt, Blake Mobley, Matt Stranathan, Nancy Bivens, Kima Hall and Kent Eshelman competed.
n Skyler Marie Hutchens and Benjamin Daniel Coats celebrated their first birthdays with pictures and articles in the paper.
n MHS state-bound wrestlers in 1984 were Ray Mazzola, Charlie Lockhart, Keenan Turner, Stan Stewart, Doug Seely, Bill Anderson and Dan Ilgen.

n Meeker school entered seven exhibits at the Western Slope Science Fair in Grand Junction. Bill Lake received an outstanding first award for his math project. Bob Amick received a second award for a physics project.
n Meeker is to have three TV channels by Sunday.
n Mary Maez married Mike Whalin Feb. 6.
n Rural fallout shelter, built of timber and designed to protect six persons at a cost of $300, has been endorsed by leaders of the nation’s largest farm organizations.

n Meeker and White River people, who are pretty good critics and generally hard to please, were most agreeably surprised this week by the high class dramatic entertainments presented by the Empire Amusement company.
n The high school board was again called together to consider the unruly actions of some of the pupils.
n The Vancleaves entertained a number of ther friends and neighbors at at their commodious ranch house just above town. Dancing and cards were the main features. Attending the mid-winter blow-out: the Balls, the Craigs, the Devlins, the Harps, the Hartkes, the Lords, Miss Mulholland, the Rees, the Robinsons, the Saltmarshes, Mrs. Sheridan and the boys, the Simms, the Simons, the Tagerts and the Wildhacks.

n Snow conditions were near normal at the end of January 1989.
n Rangely RE-4 preschoolers took a field trip to Ken Hayden’s home to study bears.
n Jerrod McDonald, Wendy Johnson, Effie Russell and Mary Lou Allred competed at the state speech festival.
n Faculty won the Winter Homecoming Week student vs. faculty basketball game 56-45. The student team included Jeremy Lancaster, Mike Mullen, Lance Sizemore, Brian Ross, Doug Hurm, Candy Wall, Gail Dollahite,Elaine Brenton, David Bradford, Cody Kuhlman, Mike King and Aaron Dembowski.

n The Rangely Junior College District adopted a resolution to name the college “Colorado Northwestern Community College.”
n In the RHS senior spotlight: Randall Martin Peterson and Miss Pamela Ruth Powell.
n Stanley Biles of Dinosaur was nominated for the safe driver of the month awared by patrolman M.J. Kay.

n Ira Cramer was re-elected to the Moon Lake Electric board of directors.
n Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Chase announced the birth of twins, David Edwin and Elaine Deborah, born Jan. 30, 1959, at Rangely District Hospital.
n Rangely’s four wrestling qualifiers: David Zeigler, Walter Weiss, Lloyd Chism and James Young.
n Lenten food advertised at Bestway: Velveeta 2 lb. loaf, 89 cents; tuna, three for 89 cents; Alaska salmon, large can, 49 cents.
