Lady Panthers whip Plateau Valley Cowboys

RANGELY I “I thought for our first game since Dec. 17, we played well,” Panther girls’ head coach Jimmie Mergelman said of her team’s 51-29 win over Plateau Valley at home last Friday.
The Lady Panthers jumped on the Lady Cowboys and put the game away early, taking a 17-3 lead after the first quarter, with six points from sophomore Quincy Thacker and five from senior Victoria Phelan, which included a three-pointer.
“Victoria does a great job of leading us and sophomore Quincey Thacker came off the bench and played well.”
The Lady Panthers led 31-9 at halftime and although they were outscored by three in the third quarter, the game was already out of reach for the Cowboys.
“It was a good opportunity for some of our younger girls to get some playing time,” Mergelman said. “All 11 girls played.”
Phelan led the team with 11 points and Rozilynn Thacker and Brittany Babineaux finished with nine. The younger Thacker and Haeley Enterline both scored eight points and Marie Morton added four. Torie Slagle rounded out the Panthers’ scoring with two.
The Lady Panthers will play the Soroco Rams at home then travel to Fruita to take on the 5A Fruita Monument JV Wildcats.
