Rangely Tracksters open in Hotchkiss

Photo by Amanda Aehehart. Freshman Aimee Hogan finished eighth in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Coming back from spring break with one full week of practice the Rangely track team opened the season in Hotchkiss last Saturday.

“All of the coaches are thrilled with the athletic achievement displayed during our first track and field meet,” head coach Stephanie Kahler said. “They have a strong work ethic that will carry them far in the season to come.”
James Kurrasch, Amanda Eahehart and Cody Brunton will assist Kahler with the coaching duties of the more than 25 student/athletes this season. Although not everyone on the team competed in the first meet, Kahler said they did an “exceptional job in competition, resulting in several PRs (Personal Records) and overall great enthusiasm from every student.”
Senior Marie Morton led the team with a second place finish in the discus and a third place finish in the shot put. Morton threw the discus 94 feet and put the shot 29-1, as well as finishing ninth in the high jump. Senior Chase Kinney placed fourth in the discus, with a toss of 111-2 and was 13th in the shot put.
Junior Ethan Peacock finished second for the boys in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.71 and long jumped 17-1 1/4 inches.
Freshman Andrew Morton triple jumped 39-1 inch, good enough for a third place finish and placed ninth in the high jump, clearing 5-5.
The Rangely track team will compete in Cedaredge this Saturday, with the first events starting at 9 a.m.
