The Meeker Herald — 125 years ago
n On Monday, Joseph D. Ball was brought before Judge Brahser by Sheriff Kendall on a warrant sworn out by Robert Reigan, charging Ball with the murder of the Reigan brothers, Patrick and James. Our readers will recall the horrible affair when the Reigan boys were blown up in their house on Piceance Creek by some miscreants during the night of Aug. 12, 1885.
n General Dave Cook, the famous Rocky Mountain detective, finally located Ball and on April 19, Sheriff Kendall started for his man — finding him on the line between Idaho and Montana. Kendall arrested him at midnight in a railroad boarding car. Ball will be kept in the Leadville jail for safety.

n More than 600 people attended the open house at the new White River Electric Association building last week.
n Mr. Thomas Murray, owner and manager of Tom Murray Market has a remodeling job underway at his Meeker store.
n Lonnie Shults was picked as the safe driver of the year from his MHS senior class.
n The meeting of Busy Spoons and Needles was called to order by president Mary Villa at the home of our leader, Mrs. Miller. We practiced making stitches and threading needles and tying knots without a tail.

n P.E.O. Representative Marge Rogers delivered the P.E.O. English scholarship to Danette Smith. Smith had the highest grade point average during her four years of English at MHS. She plans to attend Mesa College in the fall.
n Krystle Marie Frantz celebrated her first birthday on April 29. She ate strawberry cake and ice cream and had lots of fun with her new toys and balloons.
n Rachael Lee Hale, daughter of Terri and Sam Hale, celebrated her first birthday this past Tuesday, May 6.
n MHS Junior-Senior Prom Royalty for 1986: King Jason Steiner and Queen Sheryl Hokit, first attendants Ladd Klinglesmith and Danina Nay, second attendants K.C. Burke and Trish Bradfield.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
n Miss Cheryl Striegel and Bill Pilcher received outstanding achievement trophies from acting Worshipful Master Donald H. Wilson, Rangely Masonic Lodge.
n The Rangely Junior Chamber of Commerce is heading a clean-up, paint-up, fix-up drive starting May 7 and ending the following week.
n Marine Private Norval B. Massey of Rangely has completed individual combat training at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
n A Houston, Texas, firm is studying the possibility of using and atomic blast in the Rulison Field to stimulate gas production.

n The Rangely Panthers won their second straight NW League baseball championship last week.
n Bill Brennan announced early this week that he intends to seek the Democratic nomination for state senator from District 31.
n Fred Nichols celebrated his 92nd birthday.
n “Gas prices down for seventh straight month, supplies adequate for summer.” Average price per gallon is 54.1 cents.

n Valerie Peel has returned to the U.S. after spending 16 months on a mission in Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
n June Dotson said golfing at the new Cedar Ridges course is “heaven” compared to golfing as it used to be at the Slush Pit course. The Slush Pit course was a golf course developed in the oil field by Chevron, USA.
n Mr. and Mrs. Soren Nielsen announced the engagement of their daughter, Corri Lynn Nielsen, to Darren Don Baker. Baker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Derryle D. Baker.
