Miss Agnes Hazen reports the attendance at the public school has been increasing. Maud Miller and Clarence Nichols head the roll of those who have been neither tardy nor absent.
n Tom Watson went out to Bear River this week to superintend the transportation of a lot of freight into Meeker that had accumulated on the other side of the bridge during high water.

n Palmer Hoyt, the publisher of the Denver Post, spoke at Meeker High School’s 54th commencement exercises Friday night. Forty seniors received diplomas.
n Sherri Whalin gave the valedictory speech and passed the mantle to ranking junior Paula Starbuck. Salutatorian was Carol Richardson.
n “Hash,” a book of poems by former Meekerite Lotta Kincher Spaulding, has been published by Exposition Press of New York.
n May 25-May 31: high temperature, 80; low temperature, 32.

n The Wright Bros. Amusement Carnival permit has been pulled by the town of Meeker after carnival personnel had troubles in Rangely.
n Tom Pysto, who has been a town councilman for the past 2-1/2 years, turned in his resignation at this past Tuesday’s meeting because of the suspension of activities at Cathedral Bluffs.
n The Decorous Eight 4-H cake decorating club made and decorated cupcakes for all the over-60 diners at Chuckwagon. Thanks go out to Carol Lynn Whiteman, Vonda Kay Vandiver, Heather Merriam, Kelsie Anderson, Martha Taylor, Nichols Montgomery, Kelly McKee, Jennie Lake and club leader Sandy Taylor.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
n Rangely Days rodeo queen Jane Powell, accompanied by attendants Brenda Broome, Kathy Baker and Ellen Edwards.
n The White River Flying Club will offer free airplane rides to those who catch “Lucky Ride” plates dropped by one of the club’s planes over the Rangely Days parade.
n Velma Cahen and Elmo Blanton, both of Rangely, were married in Meeker May 23 by Judge Dunbar.

n Awarded outstanding junior boy and girl honors by the Rangely Lodge No. 175: Alan Stahlecker and Tammy Brady.
n At the Campus Theatre: “The Last Hard Men” starring Charlton Heston and James Coburn; “The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox” starring George Segal and Goldie Hawn.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago
n After a number of criminal incidents and one death, police closed down the Wright Bros. Carnival. The activities which led to the closure included the suspicious death of one of the carnival workers, the reported rape of a 15-year-old Rangely girl, an attempted assault, the recovery of a wooden club and a 12-gauge shotgun, the arrest of a carnival employee for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a number of drinking and curfew violations by minors and rumors of carnival workers arming themselves with weapons and taking over a local bar.
