Commissioners go paperless

RBC I Frontier Paving Inc., was awarded the bid to overlay Rio Blanco County Road 31 by county commissioners June 27 and bids were opened to seal coat and paint at the Rangely airport. Commissioners also approved the Tucker Minor Subdivision-Buford Store and Lodge, LLC.
Rio Blanco County commissioners awarded the overlay project on RBC Road 31 to Frontier Paving, Inc., from Silt, Colo. A change order was needed to bring the $768,197 project back under budget. Frontier is expected to start July 6 and complete the 3.1-mile stretch of road by the end of July.
Four companies submitted bids to seal coat and paint the runway, taxi-way and hangar area at the Rangely airport. The lowest bid for the project was $76,908 and the highest bid was $128,148. RBC airport manager Sam Lopez, who said the county is still waiting to receive a Federal grant, would review the bids and return with a recommendation at the next meeting. Lopez thought the two-week project would be completed by mid-summer.
During a public hearing, commissioners approved a rezoning request for Tucker Minor Subdivision-Buford Store and Lodge, LLC. Tucker wanted to rezone one of the lots of the 195 acre property to recreational/leisure.
Property owner Tom Tucker said the Buford Store is not open but a “chuckwagon,” was expected to be set up soon. Tucker said the cabins were being rented and he would not open the store this year but would consider leasing the store to a third party.
RBC commissioner Shawn Bolton reported July 22, is the deadline for completion of the new 4-H building at the fairgrounds, including showers “for the kids from Rangely.” Bolton also reported the commissioners “have gone paperless,” in their meetings. Except for contracts needing signatures, commissioners receive their packets electronically.
