Days Gone By …

The Meeker Herald – 100 years ago
n Much opposition has developed in Meeker and Rio Blanco County generally over the recent scheme to hold the Meeker-Rifle stage until nine o’clock in the morning, in order to catch the Grand Junction daily papers. The proposed change would give them a night run into Meeker–a great hardship on travelers, drivers and horses, as well as business houses and all White River interests.
n Judge Ryan accidentally stepped into a hole in his hay wagon Thursday morning, and broke a leg. Medical and surgical aid was immediately summoned, and the Judge is getting along as well as could be expected.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
n This year’s homecoming theme, “Fractured Fairy Tales,” prompted some interesting floats. The senior class won first place this year with their “Four and seven Demons baked in a pie.”
n At the Rio Theatre this week: “Cimarron,” America’s bold and magnificent adventure movie starring Glenn Ford, Maria Schell, Anne Baxter and Arthur O’Connell. Admission: adults–60 cents, students–50 cents, children–40 cents.
n Marshal Sam Cron was the “personality of the month” in the September issue of the Colorado Sheriff and Peace Officer’s magazine.
