The new year started out great and I’m looking forward to the rest of it!
It has been several years since I was out dancing past midnight but thanks to the Range Call committee I brought in the new year by dancing with my wife (more than once) in the new 4-H building.
I don’t know if there was a contest but Kurtis Dunbar and his girlfriend Amanda Moravek were the best jitter-buggers on the dance floor. The college couple, home for the holidays, have obviously practiced a lot. Dunbar never dropped his partner when he twisted, turned and threw her in the air.

While at the dance I was invited by Harry Watt and Jim Cook to play golf on New Year’s Day, something I have never done before, especially in Meeker. According to Cook, not many people have.
Cook said the last time the course was clear of snow and he played on New Year’s Day was 19 years ago. Cook said he played a round with Dale Frisby New Year’s Day in the early 1990s.
“I don’t remember what year it was but we played golf for 18 months in a row that winter,” Mr. Frisby told me.
It might be fun to be able to play golf year round but I would prefer we get some moisture so the course and all the pastures are green in the summer.

I’m optimistic about the challenges and opportunities 2012 will bring and send best wishes to everyone for the new year.
