The Meeker Herald —
100 years ago
• The Lampshire boys tried forcing “the good old summer time” Sunday by taking a dive in the old swimming hole at the foot of 12th Street. Hardy boys are those Lampshire kids.
• The county high school commencement will be held at the I.O.O.F. Hall. The following are the members of the graduating class: Charles Clark, Harry Colter, Frank Delaney and Misses Louise Hay, Renora Ford and Pauline Wilber. This is the largest and strongest class in the history of the school.
• Pending the erection of the Baer mansion, which will be the finest private residence in town, they will adopt the outdoor tent life for the summer.

50 years ago
• Harp Service Station on the corner of 5th and Market, celebrated its 25th anniversary May 1, 1959.
• Mr. And Mrs. Bob Kracht drove to Grand Junction on Wednesday of this week spending the day attending to business.

• Six retiring Meeker teachers were honored for their 135 combined years of teaching: Carolyn Cooley, Charles Holmes, Shirley Barone, T. Tucker, Maxine Holland and Justine Irwin.
• The town council declined to reappoint Town Administrator Frank Freeman to the position he has held for three and a half years.
• Inducted into the MHS Honor Society were Trish Bradfield, Danny Brauch, Becca Mobley, Carla Rodriguez, J.H. Sheridan, Linnea Whalin, Ward Whiteman and Jim Shults.

• Sigrid Hilkey, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Herman Hilkey, junior in the local schools, has been nominated for the annual Achievement Awards program.

• One hundred-eleven CNCC students were scheduled to receive degrees or certificates at the CNCC commencement ceremonies. State Representative Scott McInnis was guest speaker.
• “The recent Exxon oil spill, followed by dramatic gasoline price increases, highlights the inelastic domestic energy supply situation for this country,” Peggy Rector, AGNC.
• Rangely Middle School students of the month were Jennifer Brause and Bert Ballard.
