RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team only played one game last weekend but came home from Collbran with a 41-28 victory, with all but one Rangely player getting in the scorebook.
“It was nice to have three players score in double figures,” head coach Quinton Kent said of Aimee Hogan, Kelsey Prosser and Quincey Thacker. “That doesn’t happen very often for us. In fact, all but one of our players scored in this game.”
The game started slow with the lady Panthers taking a 7-4 lead after the first quarter, then they outscored the lady Cowboys 11-8 in the second to take an 18-12 lead at halftime.
“Plateau Valley played hard and did not make it easy on us at all,” Kent said.
Aimee Hogan led all scorers with 12 points and scored half of them in the third quarter giving her team a 30-19 lead going into the final quarter, where Rangely’s girls added 11 more to get the win.
“We kept plugging away and came out with a double digit win in a game that seemed closer than the score indicated,” Kent said. I was pleased with our younger girls who haven’t seen much varsity action but stepped in and did some nice things for us.”
In addition to Hogan’s 12 points, Prosser and Thacker each added 10 points. Brittany Babineaux finished with four, while Simone Heinle and Aimee Hernandez each scored two and Leslie Hernandez added a free throw. Desiree Coombs played in all four quarters but did not score.
The lady Panthers will play a league game in Hayden this Friday and host the Soroco Rams from Oak Creek this Saturday.
