Ducey joins Meeker board

MEEKER I Town native Bryce Ducey was chosen Tuesday evening to fill the vacant seat on the Town of Meeker Board of Trustees.
“I grew up here and my family is all here, and I want to help out and serve my community,” Ducey said during an interview with the board prior to their vote. “I believe I am a good fit. I am young and have a lot to learn, but I am excited to learn new things about our government.”
Ducey was selected over Lee Overton, another area native, on a vote by all board members except an absent Rodney Gerloff.
“I am motivated, interested in government and Meeker is my home and it has been good to me,” Overton said. “I believe I would be a good fit. I grew up here and I am open minded with no personal agenda and I would like to give it a try.”
Ducey was appointed to serve until the next election in April 2014.
“I am thrilled to see two persons who are interested in serving their community,” Mayor Mandi Ethridge said. “That hasn’t always been the case.
The board also voted to sign on to the state Division of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant application to extend the water and sewer line from the town to Meeker Terrace and Curtis Creek.
The town has already tentatively committed to contributing $350,000 to the $5 million project to extend the Meeker water and sewer line to Meeker Terrace as part of the new Pioneers Medical Center building project that could also lead to further growth and annexation to the Curtis Creek area.
Of the $350,000 commitment, $325,000 is from funds the board as set aside for the project and the remaining $25,000 is from Curtis Creek feasibility study funds.
In other action, the board unanimously approved a special liquor license permit for the After Birth Ball on April 20 and renewed the hotel/restaurant license for the Meeker Hotel and Cafe.
