RHS to host invite Saturday

RANGELY I “Even though we are dealing with injuries and illnesses, the athletes who are healthy are really stepping it up, which makes me proud,” Panthers head track coach Stephanie Kahler said of her team’s performances over the weekend in Coal Ridge and Glenwood Springs.
“We had a good weekend with a lot of PRs (personal records),” she said.
Senior Holly Lepro continues to score the most team points, earning second place in both meets in the discus and a second and third place finish in the shot put.
“Mitchell Webber continues to improve on a daily basis,” Kahler said. Webber dropped his times in the 110-hurdles and 300-hurdles in Coal Ridge, with 12th place finishes in both He then took time off both races Saturday in Glenwood Springs, placing ninth overall in the 110 and earned team points with a seventh-place finish in the 300.
Connor Phelan set four new personal bests in the 100 (12.01), the 200 (23.9), the 400 (57.73) and the long jump (18’5.5”), placing 11th, seventh, fifth and ninth, respectively, in Coal Ridge. Phelan earned team points in Glenwood Springs with a sixth-place finish in the 200, eighth in the long jump and he placed 10th in the 100.
Andrew Morton ran the 110 hurdles for the first time since middle school and placed ninth in Coal Ridge with a time of 17.3 seconds. Morton also ran the 300 hurdles for the first time ever in Glenwood Springs, where he placed fifth in the high jump and 10th in the long jump.
Seniors Brittany Babineaux and Leslie Hernandez both set personal bests in the 100-meter dash and freshman Chance Sheppard earned a personal best in the shot put, with a distance of 28-1 3/4 in Glenwood Springs.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the second half of the season will hold great times and distances,” coach Kahler said. “We have a home meet this weekend (the Rangely Panther Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.) that we are very excited about. We hope the community comes to watch our Rangely Panthers in action!”
