Veterans are remembered…

The Meeker and Rangely Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) honored area veterans on Monday for Veterans Day. A ceremony was held on the county courthouse lawn in Meeker, and that was followed by a lunch for county veterans and their families at Barone Middle School. Rangely hosted a lunch for area veterans and families at the Elks Club in Rangely. The VFWs in both towns were in charge of arrangements.

Joe Dungan of Meeker, the veterans’ service officer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Meeker, spoke to roughly 150 people late Monday morning during the VFW’s Veterans Day service next to the Rio Blanco County Veteran’s Memorial in front of the county courthouse. Dungan thanked all veterans, past and current, and made special mention of those who did not return home due to their still being prisoners of war, those who may have died as POWs and those missing in action.
