• Men do not have half the ailments that afflict women, but a visitor from a strange world would not suspect the fact by merely coming here to listen.
• A campaign word that has done duty in this country for more than half a century is “roorback.” It means a fiction concocted in one political party in the hope of injuring another party and designed to be put forth so late that there will not be sufficient time before election day for counteracting any injurious effect that it may have.

• The average senator’s plan for settling a serious problem seems to be to talk it to death.
• And sometimes a man is a conservative because he is too lazy to be anything else.
• And we are again being given the various excuses for the high price of coal.
• Congress is still talking about reducing government expenses. Yes, still talking.

• Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District added its views to the growing list of mounting opposition to the proposed Rio Blanco shot. Yellow Jacket, through its board of directors, last week went on record as opposing the Rio Blanco Project of the Atomic Energy Commission, Equity Oil Co., and CER Geonuclear, as “not in the local and national interests.”
• Dear Santa, I don’t know what I want for Christmas, I like hot wheel sets and zoomer — boomers. I would really like just anything. I’d really like a baby sister if you could find one. Regas Halandras
• Dear Santa, Please may I have a nurse kit? Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Santa. Love from LaDonna Richardson

• Meeker’s Tony Theos and Sam Dare were named to the Rocky Mountain News class 2A all state football roster. Theos, a senior, made the team as offensive lineman while Dare, a junior, was named to the all-state squad defensive team.
• The White Water Spas manufacturing company in Meeker shut down operations Thursday after the company owner refused to pay employees until the plant gets up to federal safety standards. According to Ken Patey, president of Rocky Mountain Spas, the Bountiful, Utah, parent company of White Water Spas, he shut down the Meeker operation “until employees in Meeker clean up that plant and bring it up to safety standards and keep it there.”

• Rangely retail sales increased 25.1% during the third quarter of 1971 over the same period in 1970.
• Sunday matinees have been discontinued at the Campus Theatre because of lack of patronage.
• Every time we hear someone advocating disobedience to a law he doesn’t like, we wonder what kind of country this would be if everyone obeyed only the laws he felt were right and disobeyed the others. How long would this society last?

• First National Bank to purchase Rangely banks. …officials believe that acquisition of the Rio Blanco State Bank and the Rocky Mountain State Bank by the First National Bank of the Rockies in Meeker will produce an arrangement that will serve the area far better than the Rangely banks could have separately.
• In an effort to provide quality retail electronics to Rangely consumers, brothers Andrew and John Brown opened Cameron Communications, Inc., Radio Shack at 826 E. Main St. last week.
