• There will be an exhibit of penmanship of the grade school on May 16 and 17th at the library. The public is invited.
• The fifth Annual convention of Northwest District of Colorado Federation of Women’s Clubs was held at Grand Junction last week. Mrs Ambrose Oldland and Mrs J.A. Rea were the delegates from the Woman’s club of Meeker.

• Several families noted that they had celebrated Mother’s Day at Sleepy Cat resort this year.
• A Nebraska man who escaped with a companion from a Utah jail during the weekend and then led officers in Wyoming and Colorado on a bizarre chase before being captured near Fort Collins was handed over to Wyoming officers Monday to face possible kidnapping and auto charges.

• This past weekend, the Meeker High School physics class traveled to Denver for the annual Physics day at Elitch’s competition.
• Joe Arnold, a gold and silver Colorado Special Olympics medalist in distance running, recently moved to Meeker. He mentioned his disappointment that Meeker didn’t have a Special Olympics program to the county extension office, and in response Julena Overstreet set the wheels in motion to establish the program here.

• The National Park Service announced today that a series of public meetings will be held in Utah and Colorado May 25-27 to receive comments and suggestions on proposals for Dinosaur National Monument in northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado.
• Rangely College power-plant technician students, accompanied by Aerospace instructors Jay West and Tug Kangus, flew to tour the Federal Aviation Administration‘s main flight and maintenance facilities.

•Colorado Northwestern Community College held their 1997 commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10. One hundred twenty-eight students earned degrees or certificates.
•The town council discussed in their last meeting that their first goal was to improve the appearance of the town square, including revitalization of bricks and making the fountain functional again.
