Registered voters should have their mail-in primary ballots in hand now, or be ready to go vote in person on or before Tuesday, June 28.
For the last few years (or decades) voting has presented something of a dilemma, particularly at the federal and state level. It’s been really tempting to skip filling in the dots on some races, because I’ve disliked all the choices. That’s still true for some of the primary races, but not for the contested races locally this year. We’ve got four candidates running for District 1 Commissioner and RBC Sheriff who all have relevant experience, qualifications, and differing styles of leadership.
Someone asked me this week who I think will win those two races and the question left me at a loss — I have no idea. I hope, based on interviews and campaign statements, that whoever wins will bring their best qualities and character traits into the job voters are hiring them to do. If they do, I believe we’ll be all right no matter who ends up sitting in those seats.
Don’t forget to vote. It may “just” be a primary, but locally it will determine two of our top county officials.
