Rollover accident injures Mich. man

RBC — A Michigan man is reportedly in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction following a one-vehicle rollover Sept. 11 on County Road 8.
The accident occurred around 2 a.m. about nine miles outside of Meeker. However, the crash wasn’t reported until about four and a half hours later when a passerby called it in.
Alcohol is believed to have been involved, said State Patrol Trooper Michael Heath.
“From our observations, we did suspect alcohol,” Heath said. “I spoke to the bartender at the VFW, who said (the driver) left at about 1:30 (in the morning).”
The driver, who was here temporarily working construction, Heath said, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Meeker Fire and Rescue personnel. The man was driving a 1998 GMC pickup.
Heath said the pickup rolled two and one-quarter times, crashed through a fence and ended up 55 feet from the road’s edge.
“From what we know he was wearing his seat belt,” Heath said. “His legs were pinned underneath the steering wheel.”
The driver, 38, was conscious when emergency personnel arrived. Initially, he was taken to Pioneers Medical Center before being transported to St. Mary’s in Grand Junction.
