RANGELY I Epsilon Chi, the Rangely chapter of the international service organization Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA), awarded its inaugural Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award to Diane Sizemore on May 1.
The chapter, which gives money and time to numerous local organizations and events, recognized Sizemore for her contributions to Rangely, particularly her passionate support of the community’s youth.
She received the honor at the Epsilon Chi end-of-year dinner at Gail and Bill Palmer’s home.
Sizemore, currently the Rangely Junior-Senior High School librarian, has worked for the school district for 30 years. She serves as the Rangely Middle School Student Council advisor and regularly sponsors dances, runs, concessions, organizes charity/school fundraisers and assists with large school projects and functions.
She has been an assistant for the Colorado Board of Dental Examiners at Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) since 1979 and serves on the CNCC Foundation Board and Columbine Park Advisory Board.
A volunteer with the Rangely Museum and the Rangely Food Bank, Sizemore is also involved with the community’s annual Septemberfest event and helps clean the Rangely Rock Crawling Park.
“We want you to know how much you are appreciated as a cheerleader and supporter of the schools and the town of Rangely,” Epsilon Chi president Brenda Hopson said during the recognition ceremony. “Thank you for all of your hard work.”
Sizemore’s response to the accolades was automatic.
“This is our town, these are our kids,” she said. “We do what we have to do. If we don’t, who’s going to? There are so many kids out there who need us.”
Starting this year, Epsilon Chi plans to recognize an outstanding community volunteer annually in the spirit of its own motto, “The only right we have is the right to be of service.”
The chapter holds to open membership and has been in existence for more than 60 years, with its primary focus on local fundraising and giving.
To find out more or to become involved, contact Hopson at 970-675-8097.
