RANGELY I New Eden Pregnancy Care Services in Rangely opened its doors for the second time to pregnant women and new mothers on May 2.
The non-profit organization, which offers guidance, referrals, pregnancy testing and material support to mothers in need, moved from a three-room suite in the Early Education Center (EEC), where it first opened in May of last year, to a two-bedroom home at 219 S. Sunset Ave.
The home now serves as a consultation room, baby boutique, office area and kitchen.
In preparation for the shift, New Eden workers have ripped out carpet, installed shelving, painted and cleaned, logging more than 100 hours of work before opening day.
Homeowners have also completed some reroofing and installed carpet, and Rangely True Value and Sunset Drywall of Craig have donated yard work and drywall installation.
New Eden director Melissa Norman said the move, made necessary by the EEC’s return to a space for preschool and kindergarten classes this fall, had its pros and cons.
“The EEC filled a need when we had to get moved into a place,” Norman said. “It was a real help at that point. It was time for us to move on, though, because it was getting kind of crowded for us and they needed the space.
“At the new house, we have privacy and more room,” she said. “I think it’s going to be a work in progress, but it seems like a comfortable space now.”
Now, Norman hopes the new location will become a place where women not only stop in for referrals and material help, but also feel safe building relationships with volunteers and other moms.
So far, women seem to be responding, she said.
“Since we’ve opened our doors, we’ve continued to help women wherever it’s needed, whether it’s formula, diapers, clothes or baby food,” Norman said.
All New Eden services are free and confidential. To learn more about what they offer, to participate in the organization’s 5K Color Run Fun Run/Walk July 5 or to apply to become a trained volunteer, contact Norman at 675-5385.
