The Rangely Braves entered the double-elimination tournament with an 8-4 record and defeated the Huskers from Silt in the first round while the Meeker Beavers ended the regular season with a 7-5 record, defeated the Wolverines from New Castle to advance to the second round in the championship bracket.
Beavers coach Erik Brown said his team scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning to win 9-8 and then they defeated the Diamond Backs from Rifle to set up a semifinal game between the two Rio Blanco County teams, which the Beavers won.
“We had lost all three games against the Braves from Rangely in the regular season,” Coach Brown said.
The loss forced an elimination game between the Braves and the Diamond Backs and the Braves won to advance to the championship game against the Beavers.
“We won 5-3 over a resilient Braves team that played three games back to back,” Coach Brown said of the championship game against Rangely. “Rio Blanco County was well represented with a lot of great play and sportsmanship.”
“This was our first year in the Colorado River Valley Little League, and, overall, it went very well,” Rangely Braves coach Kyle Wren said.
Recreation league games started Monday in both Rio Blanco County towns.
