RANGELY I Nine teams competed in the annual Elks Scramble golf tournament at Cedar Ridge Golf Course on Saturday, yet the competition was so close a playoff was needed to determine the winner. The local team prevailed.
Terry Richardson, Justin Halcomb, Ryan Elam and Jerry Blankenship, all from Rangely, shot a seven-under-par 65 in the four-person scramble, the same score as a team from Vernal, Utah.
“The playoff was with Ryan Eisele, Michael Wiggens, Mike Corbin and Butch Sevy,” Cedar Ridge Golf Course manager Chris Hejl said.
The home team only needed one hole to win the playoff.
John Hume Jr., from Grand Junction, joined his dad, John, Terry Baker and Jesse Smuts, all of Rangely, to turn in the best net score (60) for part of the prize.
The Summit employee tournament is next on the schedule at Cedar Ridge, but many of the Rangely players will be in Meeker on June 28-29, trying to keep Rio Blanco County Cup in Rangely.
