Your weekly news roundup: Dec. 14, 2023

Greetings, y’all!

I’m on the ball this week! This inevitably means there will be some glaring error somewhere … apologies in advance.

We have SO MANY new subscribers, so if you’re new here, hi! Thanks for reading! This is our weekly newsletter, where I make corny jokes and puns and say things I probably shouldn’t, along with plenty of community news from each week’s Herald.

Buckle up!

Soapbox time.

When I go back through the old books, I get really overwhelmed. Community history is so precious, so important, and so endangered.

Advertisers are lining the pockets of digital billionaires bent on world (or … Mars?) domination. This is killing community newspapers left and right. Frankly, it’s terrifying that in 10, or 15, or 50 years, all we might have to look back on is Facebook rants and duckface selfies.

That’s why I am SO thankful our community came together in such an astounding way to save the Herald, and SO EXCITED about The Lyttle Project! We will be discussing details this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Heritage Culture Center in Meeker. (There will be cocoa and cookies … wins all around!)

Thanks for reading!
