A petition was being circulated the first of the week asking the county commissioners to repair the road leading to the head of Piceance creek. The paper was quite generally signed.
Rain was threatened quite often during the past week, but failed to materialize.
Among the improvements soon to be added to Meeker is a two or three-room rectory for the Episcopalians. It will either be just east or south of their church.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stadtman of lower White were town visitors last Saturday.
Several bunches of cattle were pushed up the river early part of the week.
Walter Spencer of the Glenwood Land Office reports that the land office at that city had more new businesses last month than any other land office in the nation.

Besides being very unpleasant this past week, gusty winds were responsible for knocking three television stations off the air and causing the Wilson Creek area to be without power Monday.
Held at the Meeker High School auditorium last week, Merlin the Magician hypnotized several high school youngsters including Cleve Gibbon, Jamie Ward, and Pattie Edwards. Several of the participants said they weren’t hypnotized but others say they don’t remember what happened.
Mr and Mrs. Joe Dunn returned Saturday evening from Grand Junction where they had spent a few days with their daughter, Mrs. Clayton Carstens and family. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Edith Hilkey were the dinner guests of Mr and Mrs. Don Hilkey and family.

Six Meeker scholars were inducted into the National Honor Society this year at ceremonies on May 11.
Well-known Meeker resident Reverend Elmo A. Cook, 72, died May 6, 1999 in the Pioneers hospital following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife Jo and four children.
Thirteen members of the local high school chapter represented Meeker High School at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference.

At their May meeting the county commissioners employed V.S. and LaVerda Nelson to manage the Rangely Airport. The Nelsons are retired and recently moved here from Utah.
Randy Freeman of Belmont Shores, California, returned to Rangely this last week to graduate with his class in the Rangely College. He had finished with graduation requirements at midterm and had gone home to enter the University there. He returned to California on Monday.
Ferrene Moon came last Friday to visit with her parents, the Ferron Moons over the weekend. She is a student at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah.

Danette Comstock, daughter of Lance and Paulette Comstock, recently graduated from Mesa State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Each member of CNCC’s 1999 dental hygiene graduating class received a set of really gross-looking false teeth as a graduation gift.
The Lady Panthers will travel to the State Track Meet on Thursday with events beginning at noon on Friday near Colorado Springs.
