John Goff took a party of tourists up the river a few days ago. They went after bear.
A fine range for the rifle club is being fitted up near the race track.
Next Monday is Decoration Day.

Folks who yell fraud the loudest in an election are the ones to be watched the most carefully.
So far no big catches of trout. Several big ones have been landed. Bait is the lure.
A special dispatch from Craig reports that four Meeker sports were caught drinking out of their own bottle, in a Craig garage, arrested, fined heavily, and otherwise humiliated. A hell of a town in which you can’t wash down the alkali dust without being placed in such an awkward fix.

A short three weeks away, Freeman Fairfield Day is fast approaching, Delayed by the incomplete construction of the million-dollar Fairfield complex, the center is now shaping up and should be ready for the public inauguration on the scheduled day. Scheduled events so far include an all-day buffet, an art show, free drawings for gifts, the open house inspection, and a dance.
Gary Oba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Oba, was named to the Dean’s List for winter term at Fort Lewis College at Durango.
A white-tail buck made a big mistake when he attacked a dead brother. It’s not particularly unusual for two fighting bucks to “lock horns” but when one of them has obviously been dead for quite some time prior to the “fight” … that’s one for the books.

Meeker high school senior Marietta Marten has been accepted into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. She reports for orientation training on June 28.
The Rio Blanco County 4-H Livestock Judging Team competed in the Douglas County Invitational on May 8th. The senior team finished 4th place overall.
Lifelong Meeker resident Katherine M. Rector died May 20, 1999 just one week after celebrating her 90th birthday at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.

Roger Lee Harrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel O. Harrison, received an LDS Mission call to France-Belgium mission. He will represent the Vernal Second Ward and is a former Rangely resident.
Wanda Jones and Phyllis Franklin were in Rangely on Memorial Day and later the families went on a picnic.
Miss Cathy L. Rutherford of Dinosaur has been inducted into the Adams State College President’s Honor Society.

The Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District, in conjunction with the Colorado Division of Wildlife Free Fishing Weekend, has scheduled the annual fishing derby for Saturday, June 5 at the Kenney Reservoir Marina.
Rangely’s Math Club earned first place in the American Scholastic Mathematics Contest. They competed against 166 other schools from the United States and Canada.
