A lovely morning greeted the good people of this valley this morning, and it looks as tho’ the rain is over for the time being. 

Cattle buyers were numerous this week.

“Announce another boy down at our house!” is the way Mr. David Smith greeted The Herald scribe Tuesday afternoon. We do so with pleasure, David, and will also announce that all’s well.

An unusual incident occurred in Meeker last Saturday morning when Irving Elliot encountered a rattlesnake in his yard. It is very rare that they ever come into town.

I.M. Villa of Denver came in Saturday on a visit to his brother Mat Villa of Strawberry.

Mrs. Ambrose Oldland and Miss Margaret left midweek on an extended trip to Chicago and other midwest points. Miss Margaret will do some fall buying for the store.

The arrest of a 17 year old Massachusetts youth last Thursday morning for the Watt’s Ranch Market burglary also solved the White River Liquors burglary and the attempted burglary at S & S Equipment Co. 

R. G. Lyttle drove to Grand Junction Monday to meet his friend Rena McLeon of Vista, Calif., who will be visiting here for the next few weeks. 

If you are proud to be a rancher and proud of your cows, calves, and bulls, bring them to the Rio Blanco County Fair Aug. 20 and 21 and show what you have to be proud of.

A partnership between a Utah telephone company and Meeker’s White River Electric Company, has won the right to furnish high speed communication capacity between Grand Junction and Craig. 

Kelsey Tate, daughter of Mike and Vicky Tate, recently returned from Little Britches National Finals Rodeo, winning two World Championships and was crowned the National Finals Rodeo All-Around champion for the Jr. Girls. 

The 1999 Meeker boys summer baseball season is over! All three age groups suffered tough losses to Craig and Rangely to bring their seasons to an end.

Honesty is like an icicle. If it once melts, that’s the last of it.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Williams are the parents of a son, Ronald Frank, born July 24 at Pioneers Hospital in Meeker.

The Warren Churchs took their daughter Carla and some more children to the First Baptist Church Camp on Grand Mesa last Sunday.

Monday August sixteenth is the first RHS cross country practice of the 1999 season.

The Piceance Basin in Rio Blanco County appears to be well on its way toward becoming the primary national source for natural sodium bicarbonate. 

Knit 4-U in Craig is going out of business. Everything is on sale.
