The deer season opens next Tuesday, and the woods are full of deer-hunters already. 

The rains took a parting shot at the already well soaked earth last Saturday afternoon, since which time we have had good haying weather. 

Fred Garrison, the photographer, says he was getting ready, a few days ago, to pull out when a rush of business set in. That’s the way they do it, dear boy.

Haying seems to be the program for the Strawberry neighborhood this week and we are thankful for the clear weather.

L. L. Offerle and wife of Buford have been attending Market Week in Denver the past week. 

Miss Maraget Urie of Greeley is visiting Mrs. Robert Y. Davis.

Mary K. Villa, who will be a member of the Steamboat Springs high school faculty for the ‘74-75 school term, left Sunday for Fort Collins, where she is attending a workshop. Mary, as a Vocational Home Economics instructor, will also be assistant gymnastic and track coach. 

Some 29 Meeker High School graduates will be sharing $10,500 in scholarships from the Freeman E. Fairfield Charitable Trust fund for the 1974-75 school year. 

Social security benefits were being paid to residents of Rio Blanco County at a rate of $82,000 a month at the close of 1973.

There are a number of children in the Meeker school district who cannot afford to buy the supplies they need for school. You can help by purchasing some school supplies and dropping them into the School Supply Drive donation boxes at Variety Shack, Watt’s Ranch Market, Wendll’s, Valley Grocery, and the Bakery. 

Mike and Mary Grady, along with Fred and Sharon Day are pleased to announce the engagement of their “kids” Katie Grady and Travis Day.

Pat, Becky, Lathrop, and Sydney Hughes are all pleased to announce the arrival of their new son and brother, Logan Curtis. 

RANGELY 50

Schuyler A. Hammond, 70, died at 8:10 pm Wednesday, August 7 at the Rangely District Hospital following an illness of one year. Mr. Hammond was a charter member of the Rangely Masonic Lodge and a member of the Grand Junction Scottish Rite Consistory. He was a member of Leadville and Rangely Elks lodges for 43 years. 

The Rio Blanco County Fair 4-H livestock sale will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. in front of the grandstands at the fairgrounds. 

Dean of Students G. Randy Boeglin has announced the appointment of Ms. Mary Casper to the position of College Counselor at Colorado Northwestern Community College.

RANGELY 25

What used to be Rangely Middle School and then the Early Education Building/Administration Building has started getting its new look. The construction is contracted to be finished for the 2000/2001 school year. The building was originally constructed in the early 60s.

In an August 13 article, the Denver Post reported that Moon Lake Electric had been ordered to pay a $100,000 fine, ruling that it was criminally responsible for the electrocution of 17 protected eagles, hawks, and owls. 

Dinosaur National Monument Superintendent Dennis Ditmanson announced today that on Wednesday, August 25, the entrance fee to the monument will be waived for this one day. Each year national park areas suspend collecting entrance fees for one day to celebrate National Parks Day and to thank the American public for their support.
