A rural editor says chickens are worth 2 cents apiece in his town–but he doesn’t say how large the pieces are. 

Ambrose Oldland went to Denver yesterday on a combination business and pleasure trip.

Hunting parties and tourists were very plentiful this week.

The district attorney’s office is no snap. Frank Delaney, who fills that office with marked ability, has been up till 1 and 2 o’clock every night working on his cases.

Dr. and Mrs. Paul Dill and a party of friends all of Greeley were all visitors in the Meeker area on Tuesday. While in this vicinity, they made a trip to Trappers Lake. 

There is a brisk demand for cavalry horses these days.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Oldland of Littleton spent three days last week camping and fishing up at Marvine.

Meeker schools’ predicted 10 percent enrollment increase didn’t materialize Monday when enrollment figures were up only 3 students over last year’s first day total. 

Friday of last week, Mrs. Harold Amick, as board member, attended a meeting of the Advisory Council for Vocational Education and Community Colleges, held at the Capitol building in Denver.

Twenty-four pieces of artwork have been submitted by artists from across the nation and around the world for the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championships Trials Art Contest. Over $1,500 will be awarded to contest winners with $1,000 going to first place, $300 to second place, and $250 to the best Northwest Colorado entry. 

Preparations to replace the bridge over White River on State Highway 13 south of Meeker will start the week of August 30 when sign installation and surveying are planned to begin. 

Nathan Elliot Turner, 9, son of Keenan and Marti, has been a busy fellow. He and his heifer, Harriet, won reserve champion honors for his class at the Rio Blanco County fair.

Lois Barnhart, a senior at Rangely High School, was recently notified that she is to be featured in the Eighth Annual Edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 1974-1974, the largest student award publication in the nation.

The grandfather who thought nothing of walking four miles to school is sure to have a grandson who doesn’t think much of it either.

The Rio Blanco Oil Shale Project has completed drilling 4 of the approximately 30 holes to be drilled in conjunction with exploratory work on Federal Tract Coa in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. Two more are drilling. Completion of the total drilling program is expected by the end of the year.

Rangely High School National Honor Society introduced a freshman mentorship program this school year. This program will provide friendships with upperclassmen and someone to whom the freshmen can turn to for help with homework or any other problems they may have at the high school. 

Kelsey Hejl, a 1999 graduate of Rangely High School, has been awarded a scholarship from the Society of Petroleum Engineers – Uintah Basin Section for the 1999-2000 school year.

The Market Division of the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has announced that the newest edition of its Colorado Hay Directory is now available both in printed form and on the Internet.
