Register Chipley of the State Land board returned yesterday from Routt county, where he viewed with favor a proposition to inundate 150 acres of state land preparatory to irrigating the surrounding country.

Ralph Meeker, of the New York Herald, is in the city on a brief vacation to visit his aged mother, and also his sister, Miss Rozene Meeker, whom he has not seen for years, and also to shake hands with his many friends of the early days, who will be glad to meet him again.

A report from our neighboring town of Craig shows that a bad frost which occurred there on the 9th damaged the ‘Bean’ crop very much. 

Men who in truth run for political office as candidates for an organized minority within a party such as the Ku Klux Klan naturally give their first allegiance to the minority that brought about their nomination.

Myles Keller’s 3 week archery hunt ended in what every hunter dreams of. A trophy elk.

The 40 acre area swept by fire Tuesday near Rieneau Mine, 7 miles north of Meeker, was brought under control by consolidated coal Co. and BLM employees and the Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept, according to Jim Keeton of the BLM. 

The town council granted the Rio Blanco Historical Society use of a 30 x 50 50 ft. parcel of the gravel parking lot at City Park for the placement of three historic cabins at a special meeting Thursday.

Meeker town council member Herb Hughley on Sept. 21 walked out on the town council meeting after the trustees voted to hold an executive session to discuss rent negotiations with the Rio Blanco county commissioners.  

The shelter currently is housing a female collie/lab mix and her litter of puppies. The former owner had to give up the dogs. We want to find good homes for the pups and for the mother as soon as possible.

This year’s homecoming game and the Booster club Float has been dedicated to Mark Giles Danielson, who has been missing in action since June of 1972. 

A tramp was asked, “When you wake up in the morning how do you shape your course?” “I always turn my back to the wind,” he replied. Where he went made no difference. He refused to buck the wind. He always took the path of the least resistance. 

Rangely’s Junior Varsity was out-scored last Saturday 64 to 12 by the Meeker Cowboys there.

The RHS Marching Band begins its competitive season this weekend with a parade and field show contest in Grand Junction on Saturday, October 2.  

Rangely Christian Church is happy to welcome a new pastor… Tom and his wife Nancy have answered the call from the Christian Church and will be moving here from Culver, Oregon.
