Some of our cattlemen fear that the range will be overstocked next summer. If all the cattle are brought in that are booked for this valley, it looks to us as though there are substantial grounds for their fears. 

The hardest worked man in town these days is Rev. Handel. In addition to the mental worry and wear and tear incidental to his arduous position, Mr. Handel gets in a solid day’s work with a saw and hammer each day. His energy is simply boundless.

So far the winter has been favorable to stock interests.

The bottle of the Marland well water was on exhibition at the Commercial Club last Sunday. Manager source brought it in for a sample and it tastes just the same as the sulphur water at Steamboat and Glenwood. 

Nels Hansen of Strawberry exchanged greetings with town friends Saturday. 

Piceance was represented at the county seat Saturday last by Fritz Ebler, Dick Magor and Fred Dietz. They attended to various business matters.

The Rio Blanco County Planning Commission last Thursday reluctantly gave its initial O.K. relative to a proposed mobile home park, northwest of Meeker, with the hint of legal action voiced by one county resident. 

Meeker’s high school concert band and choir will present their annual holiday concert tonight, Thursday at 8 o’clock at the high school auditorium. 

Everyone, hang on, and hope nothing else comes up to mar all the Christmas programs and football games around New Year’s time.

The Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT) on Sept. 17 conducted a drug raid at 1040 Main St., apartment 4 in Meeker. As a result of the sweep, in Rio Blanco County Combined Court, Micheal Long, 37, Meeker, was sentenced to six months in county jail for marijuana possession. Tamara Avery, 39,  same address, was ordered to pay $1,416 for cultivation marijuana. 

As you drive by the Christmas tree lot on Main Street, remember that what you see of the Meeker Lions Club’s annual holiday season sale, is only a small part of the community’s busiest volunteer organization.

In a November report to federal, state and Rio Blanco Oil Shale Project of Gulf Oil Company (Indiana) said that the air quality, meteorology terrestrial and aquatic biology environmental studies are under way on oil shale tract C-a, core hole drilling is completed and projections for C-a water, power, pipeline and other needs are expected to be completed in 6 months for use. 

The Jr. High Panthers broke open a tight ball game against a fine Sailor basketball team with a hot 3rd quarter and defeated Steamboat Springs 51-44 on the home floor.

Elves, reindeer and maybe even Santa Claus, the Rangely 4-H elves visited the Long -Term Care Unit, Dec. 7. The senior Santa’s came to help the 4-H elves, Miranda Strain, Emily Hairston, Alma Smalec, Aron Smalec, and Jolie Norman along with Audrey Kip and Kit Lee, make Christmas crafts. 

The Rangely Student Council has been busy as the holiday vacation nears. We have been busy planning the Millenium Dance, decorating the school tree and the Secret Santa program.
