A substantial code of ethics is much more valuable than a historic coat of arms. 

The backbone of weather is broke, and so far it has been a mild and pleasant one. 

A very enjoyable tea party was given under the auspices of the Ladies’ Guild of St. James Church at the residence of Mrs. Niblock.

Since the passing of Uncle Zeke Allen, there are only two veterans of the Civil War left in this community, namely Messrs. E A Proctor and John A. Watson. Both are enjoying good health despite advancing years.

A cablegram announced the safe arrival of Miss Marion Smith in England. Marion was met on the other side by her sister, Mrs. Dorothy Smith Goodall. She will spend several months in England and Scotland visiting relatives.

Still seeking league competition worthy of their mettle, Meeker Matmen finished the weekend with a 48-10 win over Rangely, Saturday night in Rangely.

Rio Blanco County’s retiring assessor of 12 years, Dale Frisby, opened his going away gift: a calculator. Frisby plans to devote full time to his greenhouse business in Meeker.

Due to an unfortunate incident, some of the Herald’s basketball pictures and most of the film of Meeker’s victory over Rifle in wrestling Friday night were double-exposed. We’ll make it up Saturday night when Meeker’s grapplers meet Steamboat Springs for another thrilling victory.

The Meeker Elementary School library commemorated National Children’s Book week by drawing designs for T-shirts. Winners were Daniel Williams, Nate Boesch, Lindsey Taylor, Sydney Cook, Erin Watson, Mick Mobley, Kay Bivens, Malorie Brugel, Gene Stranathan, Anna Eliasen, and Ethan Turner.

The Meeker Town Council on Jan. 4 awarded the bid for a new Crown Victoria police car to the lowest bidder, Glenwood Ford, for a total cost of $22,426.75.

Moon lake Electric Association General Manager, Merrill Millett, announced today the decision to close RangelyDual Fuel Generating Plant at the end of the current winter season. A number of factors were considered by Moon Lake in arriving at the decision, the most important being the cost and availability of fuel. 

Twenty-one students in the Rangely High School Rodeo club attendees the National Western Livestock Show and Rodeo in Denver this last week-end.

More than 800 1975 license plates were sold the first day they were on sale with June Graham receiving Plate No. 1.

Rio Blanco County Commissioners recently signed a contract with N.C. Telecom, Inc. for $1.2 million dollars of pre-paid telecommunications for the county.

Department of Transportation Rep. Don Bristol smoothed over a section of road at mile marker 39 on Highway 139. According to a Rangely Fire Department press release, a ruptured gasline exploded, putting a 15-feet by 30-feet by 18-feet hole in the road in the early morning hours on Jan. 11. 

American Soda received its final approval to construct the soda mine in the Piceance Basin.
