It doesn’t pay anything to be polite, and it often pays enormous dividends.

Frank Aul, a freighter of Hayden, came in from that place Thursday and loaded out with alfalfa seed and Meeker flour. Mr. Aul says that the Hayden valley people are putting in lots of alfalfa–mixing it with their timothy. 

The Glenwood convection of ranchmen to protest against the leasing of the arid lands was a grand success.

“Old Sol” is getting some very good licks these days. Spring is coming along alright, but not here yet.

The state highway surveyors have finished their field work through town, but it will be sometime before they finish their office work and have the plats of different surveys completed.

Several oil freight trucks are seen on our streets nowadays, which makes a good showing of coming activities in the oil prospecting game. We hear that much work is contemplated in the Oakridge park this coming spring and summer.

K. James Cook and wife were among the COlorado editors attending the annual Colorado Press Convention held at the Brown Palace this past weekend in Denver.

Fighting off a running Steamboat team, the freshman Cowboys in basketball held onto a slim lead and won their last season game, 41-39.

Now that the Meeker Junior High has finished their basketball season and the high school wrestlers have cleared the wrestling room, the young athletes of the junior high have begun their practice for their wrestling season.

Last Saturday night, Cowboy senior Matt Brennan won the 145 pound championship in the 65th annual and first Colorado High School Wrestling Championship of the new millennium.

At the Masons banquet, Bill Jordan accepted the Citizen of the Year award from Hal Pearce.

The Meeker Elementary School will celebrate Dr. Suess’s Birthday on March 2. Barone Middle School students will come to our school and read in the afternoon.

The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce would act as the sponsoring agency for a National Archery Tournament to be held on June 7 and 8.

Earthmovers began work February 5 at the new church site of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Complete story will follow next week.

The Rangely girls basketball team lost two varsity games last week as Craig won 53-23 and Meeker won 35-25 on the home court.

Michael Christoff of Dinosaur was a winner of $1,000 in the Colorado Lottery. Congratulations, Michael!

Webelo’s Den One Pack 189 and 191 recently visited the Rangely Times to find out how the newspaper operates. The tour was to help the scouts reach their goal in receiving a communicator badge.

Rangely’s Yates Burt wrestled at 135 pounds at the State Wrestling tournament held at the new Pepsi Center in Denver over the weekend. Competition in the 135 weight class was fierce. Burt took 4th place.
