The body of Clover Ward, who was drowned at the government bridge nearly a month ago, was found last Saturday at the Lily Park ranch, about 50 miles below the scene of the accident. 

By authority of the Board of Trustees of the town of Meeker Colorado: That hereafter is shall be unlawful for any person or persons to empty the contents, or wash any cuspidors, or sweep into or throw any waste paper, or if any person shall cast or deposit or in any manner aid in casting or depositing any earth, filth or any material or anything whatever into the lateral ditches that carries the water through the streets of the Town of Meeker and within its corporate limits whereby such water shall in any way be polluted any such person so offending shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction thereof shall be fined not less than one dollar nor more than five dollars.

Nobody ever reads every word of every issue of this paper, but enough of it is read to let headquarters hear about it when a mistake is made or something displeasing is said in any part of it. 

The most popular place in town for the past week has been the Scott oil dome where the huge artesian water well has been dammed and converted into a swimming hole. Due to the fact that very few bathing suits were available, all sorts of costumes were constructed to serve the purpose until better suits could be obtained.

Both the Rangely and Meeker communities were shocked and saddened by the death of Tommy Steele, who was critically burned in an oil field fire Tuesday afternoon. 

Denver has had freak weather this year the same as the rest of the state, only they are getting too much moisture while we aren’t getting any.

The Meeker VFW Post and Auxiliary float with color and meaning won the grand prize trophy in Meeker’s 4th of July parade Friday. Ruby Renfro depicted the Statue of Liberty symbol for this beautiful patriotic float.

A big medal for a little guy — Coley Turner was a third place winner in the 10 and under age group at the regional freestyle wrestling tournament held in Boulder June 27-28. Young Coley is only five years old…just imagine what he will be when he gets as big as his dad!

Kerry and Joy Murdock are the new owners of the Meeker Herald and the Rangely Times. 

A 19-year-old Kiowa man died early July 2 at Pioneers Hospital of a suspected overdose.

Weather conditions favorable, aerial spraying for mosquitos will be done early Friday morning, according to Town Manager Dan Giltz. Residents are urged to put cars in garages or cover them during the actual spraying time.

Profanity and obscenity via radio, television and movies should be a matter of concern to all of us. Why do script writers and programmers feel they must resort to the language of illiterates to give vigor to a presentation.
