RANGELY I Missoula Children’s Theater participants performed its version of the classic children’s tale “Aladdin” to a packed house in the Rangely Junior-Senior High School auditorium Nov. 14.

Rangely Junior High School eighth-graders claimed three of the four lead parts this year. Tommy Jarvis played the show’s self-titled hero, Phalon Osborn played Princess Dory and Alexis Wiley acted as Dinazade. Sophomore McKenzie Webber played Dinazade’s sister, Scheherazade.
Sixty-four local children made up this year’s cast, with participants practicing up to four hours per day after school.
Missoula Children’s Theater puts on its final production just four days after auditions.

This was the ninth straight year that the Missoula Children’s Theater has performed in Rangely, but Beth Scoggins, president of the sponsoring school PTA, said rising costs may threaten that and that it is possible the school could go to once every two years. The performance this year cost roughly $2,800, she said.

Parkview Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), Encana Corp. and the Wilczeks sponsored this year’s event, PTO President Beth Scoggins said.
“I thought the week went well,” Scoggins said. “It always amazes me how well the show goes with only a week of practice.”
This is the ninth consecutive year Rangely has hosted the international community theater group. Parkview PTO hopes to continue to offer the production annually but may switch to performances every other year if funding isn’t available, Scoggins said.
This year’s event cost $2,750, a discounted price since Missoula Children’s Theater came during an open week in its schedule. Admission fees go toward production costs but do not cover them, Scoggins said.
