Community News Roundup ~ March 12, 2026

Happy Herald Day!

We had an unexpected visitor in the Herald office this week.

On Tuesday we started hearing strange noises coming from the HVAC system. By Wednesday I’d gone full Nancy Drew, following the mysterious sound around the building until it led me to the crawl space under the stairs.

With a little apprehension — expecting a packrat, squirrel, whistle pig or maybe a ghost — I opened the crawl space door. A bird flew out, bounced off some windows, landed on the fan, and got Nellie’s retriever instincts into high gear.

It took some doing, but eventually I caught the little one and released it outside, safe and sound.

Around here we call that breaking news. 🐦📰

In all seriousness, this week’s paper is chock full of real local news. There’s something that matters on every page, so read all the way through!

Thank you, all, for subscribing, for advertising, and for contributing to YOUR community newspaper. We couldn’t do it without all of you!
