RANGELY | The Rangely High School track and field teams wrapped up a busy week with strong performances at the Wild West Twilight Last Chance meet May 6 at Stocker Stadium and the Cardinal Invitational on May 9 in Parachute.
At the Wild West Twilight meet hosted by Central High School, senior Logan Peterson led the boys team with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 11.33 seconds. Sophomore Chance Allred placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.92, while senior Joseph Valdez was sixth in 2:08.92.
The Panthers also placed seventh in the 4×200-meter relay in 1:35.61 and eighth in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:38.40. Freshman Nathan Peterson added a third-place finish in pole vault by clearing 10 feet, 10 inches.
For the girls, junior Taya Wren won both the 1600-meter run in 5:14.23 and the 3200-meter run in 11:18.50. Freshman Teagan Behumin placed seventh in the 400 meters in 1:02.02, while sophomore Kira Jo Benson was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 28.22.
The girls 4×200-meter relay team finished sixth in 1:51.61. In throwing events, senior Aubrianna Tapia took fourth in discus and shot put, while sophomore Taylor Fouch finished second in shot put at 33 feet, 7 inches.
At the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Grand Valley High School, Logan Peterson highlighted the boys performances by winning the 200-meter dash in 22.86 seconds, finishing second in the 100 meters and capturing the long jump title with a leap of 20 feet, 4 inches.
Sophomore Tavan Morgan placed second in the 400 meters in 53.89 and later added a second-place finish in the 3200 meters in 11:31.68. Zane Wiley finished seventh in the 400, while freshman Nathan Peterson was eighth.
Chance Allred placed third in the 800 meters, with Joseph Valdez fourth. Sophomore Kyler Fouts placed in both distance races, while Titus Friedrich finished seventh in the 3200.
The Panthers won the 4×200-meter relay in 1:34.16 and finished third in the 4×400 relay in 3:45.86.
In field events, junior Christian Fortunato and junior Devon Lucero both placed in long jump. Junior Kacey Allred finished second in pole vault, while Nathan Peterson, sophomore Easton Petersen and senior Gage Neilsen also placed.
Senior Chase Cochrane earned third in discus and seventh in shot put. Sophomore Cutler Mergelman finished fifth in shot put.
For the girls, freshman Teagan Behumin placed fourth in the 100-meter dash, second in long jump and won pole vault with a clearance of 8 feet, 6 inches.
Freshman Aubrey Yates finished second in the 200 meters, while senior Tylee Fielder was ninth. Wren placed third in the 400 meters and Benson finished fifth.
In distance events, sophomore Faith Prieto and sophomore Angelynna Head both placed in the 3200. The girls 4×800-meter relay team won its event in 10:35.92, while the 4×200 relay placed fifth and the 4×400 relay finished fourth.
Fouch won the shot put competition with a throw of 35 feet, 8.5 inches and Tapia was third. In discus, Tapia finished fifth and Fouch was 10th.
This week, the Panthers will compete at the Colorado State Track and Field Championships May 14-16.
