 Outside of Denver, Meeker has now one of the finest bank buildings in the state. The building is, in reality, part of the Hugus block, being the new addition to that fine block, tho’ to all intents and purposes a separate building, as the Bank of Meeker is now a separate, distinct institution—in no way connected with the Hugus Mercantile company.

Today, Wednesday, is James Whitcomb Riley’s birthday. One of his poems, “Granny” was given in assembly by a fifth grade pupil. Today, the assembly program consisted of readings from the grades represented and special songs.

Their tires get a little wider, and the equipment gets a little fancier, but each year hundreds come for another shot at that trophy bull. Out-of-state hunters will be paying more this round, but from the looks of the town during the week, Meekerites can once again expect a full crowd to enjoy elk hunting season with them.

RHS King and Queen for the 1976 Homecoming festivities were Alan Stahlecker and Debbie Hazlewood. Senior attendants were Kelly Brown and Carla Dey, Roy Enterline and Carrie Smith. Junior attendants were Casey Klements and Valerie Bock. Representing the sophomore class were Kim Kidder and Joy Greenberg, and freshman attendants were Ronnie Plummer and Dawn Pennell. In the Homecoming game, the Panthers trounced Steamboat Springs 36-12 Friday night.

Rio Blanco County Nursing Service was honored on October 3rd by receiving the Outstanding Agency of the Year Award presented by the Public Health Nurses Association of Colorado. The presentation was made during the annual Colorado Public Health Association and Public Health Nurses Association of Colorado joint conference in Breckenridge. Staff members present to accept the award were Diane Banta, Joan Overton, and Holli Schopp
