Four Meeker streets get facelift

Residents in northeast Meeker may have faced a few neighborhood traffic delays last week and early this week as the Town of Meeker is competing its major repaving project for the summer. The full lengths of Third and Fifth streets as well as Hill and Cedar streets between Third and Fifth streets have been ground down two inches, running 15 feet from the curb and are being repaved to make the sides into better drains for runoff. Meeker Town Administrator Scott Meszaros said the entire project should be completed this week.

MEEKER I Some of the streets in the east and northeast neighborhoods are the beneficiaries of the Town of Meeker’s 1.5-mile 2015 Paving Project, in which some town streets have already had their asphalt ground down and received a new two-inch overlay.

“We have roto-milled the entire length of Third and Fifth streets,” Meeker Town Aministrator Scott Meszaros said Friday. “We try to do one big project each year, and this project should help with drainage from heavy runoff.”
“The town has also roto-milled Cedar and Pine streets between Third and Fifth,” he said.
He explained that crews start at the curbing and roto-mill or grind up the asphalt to a depth of two inches, reaching 15 feet from the curb, leaving the middle of the streets as they were.
“We are laying down a two-inch asphalt blanket from curb to curb on those four streets, and that will allow the sides near the curb to carry water better as the crown down the middle of the street will be two inches higher that it was,” Meszaros said. “It will just plain be a better road condition.”
The work has been done by United/Old Castle Southwest Group out of Mesa County at a cost of $527,671.
“The schedule was to be done by Saturday; but I expect it will be done in midweek,” he said.
“Unless we have a weather problem, we certainly should be done by the time the newspaper comes out on Thursday.”
Meszaros also said at the roto-milled materials will be placed on Center Creek Road to help road conditions there.
