Meeker

Fire dancers…

Flora Bella florists in Meeker threw a thank-you exhibition for its customers on Friday night at Meeker Town Park, and well in excess of 100 people watched and joined in the entertainment provided by the Polynesian Fire Dancers. The duo offered dances from the South Pacific islands of Hawaii, Samoa and New Zealand, getting several women and girls in the audience to learn the hula and a couple of local men to learn a Maori chant from New Zealand.

While the Polynesian Fire Dancers who performed in Meeker on Friday night were both from the South Pacific, they now reside in Denver. Meeker, however, has its own South Pacific dancer as Meeker’s Tai Mataia joined the fire dancers to perform a dance on her own. Seen here, Mataia, who is from Samoa, performed a Samoan dance much to the appreciation and applause of the more than 100 locals who took in the dance performance at Meeker Town Park, sponsored by Flora Bella florists to show appreciation to its customers.

Part of the show on Friday night given by the Polynesian Fire Dancers at Meeker Town Park was to learn the hula, an exercise several Meeker women and girls took the dancers up on. The duo, sponsored by Flora Bella florist shop in Meeker, did a variety of dances from the South Pacific, including the hula, Maori war dances and fire dances.
