RANGELY I Former Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce Director Kristin Steele, who resigned her position in April, has been formally charged for theft and computer crimes.
On Friday, Steele was charged with Class 4 felony theft and computer crimes.
Steele stands accused of stealing just more than $30,000 from the Rangely chamber.
Class four felonies carry a presumptive sentence of two years minimum to eight years maximum imprisonment and/or probation.
According to Sherry Caloia, 9th Judicial District district attorney, a plea deal will not be considered unless all of the money has been repaid to the chamber.
Steele had been with the chamber since January 2014, and also served as a Rangely Town Trustee who did not seek re-election this year after having been appointed to the position.
Chamber Board President Lisa Piering, who is also the Rangely town treasurer, said the chamber board is unwilling to answer questions or make a statement at this time.
The chamber is partially taxpayer funded, receiving $15,000 from Rangely for 2016, and various grants from several sources in addition to membership dues and fundraisers.
Steele told the Herald Times on Tuesday afternoon she had repaid all funds, but the paper was unable to confirm that before press time.
