Treasure hunt project piques students’ interest in discovery

Parkview Elementary School students practiced using metal detectors at Spencer and Sarah Wagners’ downriver property in May as part of a class unit on micromagnetism and a hands-on approach to history and science. More than $6,500 and equipment was donated by the community when fourth-grade teacher Dana Forbes sought out funds for a learning unit that emphasized exploration and discovery. A Treasure Hunting Club has been active through the summer, and more teaching with the equipment will continue into the fall.
