After three tough weeks the Rangely Panther football team will host Hayden this Friday for Rangely’s Homecoming game. The young team shows promise, according to coach Paul Fortunato.
RANGELY | “We have had three tough weeks in a row,” Rangely head football coach Paul Fortunato said after a 54-0 loss last Friday in Oak Creek to the Soroco Rams. “We have moved on and are now getting ready for Homecoming this weekend against Hayden.” After winning their first two games, the Panthers have lost three in a row, including twice to the Rams. “I believe we are seeing big strides out of the freshman and sophomore classes and we will continue to push through,” coach Fortunato said. “They are a great group of kids and will be an exciting group to watch.” Rangely freshman Tytus Coombs led the Panthers on offense, carrying the ball 13 times for 95 yards and sophomores Trenton Files and Grady Nielsen led the Panthers on defense with 10 and nine tackles respectively. Sophomore Stetson Cudo was in on seven tackles and senior Mikey Sheppard took 14 handoffs and averaged three per carry. “We are trying to keep all these youngsters positive and push through,” coach Fortunato said. “They have faced a lot of adversity this year and are expected to do things they haven’t ever had to do but we’ll be fine. I appreciate all these guys working hard for us every day and continuing to push through and get better.”
