The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
– Tight, narrow shoes, high heels, tight waists and the habit of candy eating cause in many women benumbed, tender and icy feet and age them early.
– Any old time you see a man grab his female companion by the wing and carefully escort her across when they get to a street crossing, the betting is about 900,000,000 to 1 that they are not married.
– The Meeker Hotel register is well filled these days, showing that spring travel is setting in.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
– Old Man Weather fouled up the Easter Bunny’s egg hunt Saturday morning. Friday night before the hunt a two-inch snow fell and while the eggs were hid in the snow by six Boy Scouts Saturday morning, the cold, damp snow undoubtedly accounted for the decreased number of children.
– An approach of spring has resulted in an increase in the number of thefts and mischief complaints received by law enforcement agencies the past few weeks. Compounding the situation has been the numerous complaints about dogs running loose in the school area.

The Meeker Herald — 25 years ago
– BJHS principal Gary Fickle presented Katie Conrado with a spelling book after she won top honors at this year’s spelling bee. Miss Conrado will now be traveling on to Denver this Saturday to take part in the State Spelling Bee competition. Miss Conrado was declared the winner after runner-up Devon Harmon misspelled the word “nephritis.”
– Meeker’s Suzan Dole continued to excel on the ski slopes as she returned home from the USSA/Rolex Junior III Olympics at Winter Park with a tie for first place in the Super G event. Suzan is an eighth grader at Barone Junior High School and skis for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago
– Project Dragon Trail will be completed in March of 1968. Dragon Trail will consist of detonating a 40 kiloton nuclear device near the base of the Manco “B” gas zone at a depth of approximately 2,700 feet. The test is planned in an area 17 miles south of Rangely and west of Douglas Creek.
– Retail sales in Rio Blanco County were down 2 percent in 1966 from $6,520,000 to $6,375,000.
Rangely Times — 50 years ago
– Several local residents spotted an unidentified flying object yesterday near the outer western limits of Rangely. Wile all three claimed to see the craft, the descriptions varied drastically.
– The Rangely Elks Tri-State Rodeo Queen Contest will be held at the Columbine Park.
– In the Pinewood Derby race Dustin Kissling’s Black Avenger took first in the race with Chris Hejl taking second and A.J. Rooks taking third. In the design category Mike Urbanik’s Bat Mobile took first with Brady Dixon taking second and Jacob Allred taking third.
