– Don’t neglect your eyes. See S.R. Berger, the popular optician, who will be at the Meeker Hotel for two days. Children’s eyes examined free.
– During most of this week the weather has been fine; but, to break the monotony about an inch of snow fell Thursday night.
– Sheriff Lyon now has a comfortably fixed up office on the ground floor of the county building. The office faces and is connected with the county jail.
– Commissioner Harp has men and teams at work scraping and leveling the Meeker-Rifle road (as far as it is dry); also his end of the Buford road. The Mesa roads will be attended to as soon as they are dry.
– Too many people get into an argument who have nothing to say.

– The champion speller of Rio Blanco County was chosen Friday and will represent this county at the Wyoming-Colorado spelling bee in Denver Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29. Winner of the first place trophy was Mary Cook, of Meeker Junior High, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cook.
– Les Butler, Ron Taussig, Ray Anderson and coach Paul Starbuck of the Meeker Future Farmers of America chapter received a superior team rating in livestock judging at the annual FFA judging contests held at Colorado State University.
– Three young musicians, Tom Jirak, guitar; Dave Allen, drums; and Jim Jirak, sax, answered a call to the Battle of the Bands contest at Glenwood Springs. While being the youngest teenage band to compete, “The Corzairs,” as they call themselves, came in fourth. There were two bands from Glenwood and Grand Junction entered a pair.

– Stating it was his last year, Precinct No. 3 Republican caucus chairman Frank Cooley and vice-chairman Lois Theos took a roomful of interested Republicans through Tuesday evening’s caucus agenda. The only local race to attract any attention this year is the county commissioner seat presently being held by Don Davis, who is being challenged by John Neiberger.
– Outside of a felony menacing incident in which a Meeker man allegedly pulled a gun on his wife, Police Chief Si Woodruff reports that his department was busy, “but nothing major” the past two weeks.
– Rapunzel, the enchanting Theaterworks/USA musical, will be playing at Meeker High School Auditorium under the auspices of the Meeker Fine Arts Council.

– The Rangely Junior Chamber of Commerce announced today that Joel Hogan of Rangely has been selected for inclusion in the 1967 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America.
– A number of contractors are working on projects in Rangely this spring with several more to start soon. Chief among these are the Catholic Church parish center, USI Axelson building and a three bedroom home on Rio Blanco Avenue.
– Sad but true: What happens is not as important as what the people believe has happened.
– In the senior spotlight for Rangely High School: Larry Gierhart, Carol Steele and Antoinette Goudeau.
– The launching of a multi-billion dollar industry to extract oil and valuable associated minerals from shale mountains in northwestern Colorado is a virtual certainty in five to 10 years. This consensus emerged from the fourth annual Oil Shale Symposium.

– Twelve-year-old motorcycle rider Ryan Cook will be representing the Town of Rangely at the 21st annual World Mini Grand Prix in Las Vegas, Nev. Ryan is perhaps the first dirt bike rider from Rangely to participate in an event of this magnitude and opportunity.
– The Rangely Pee Wee/Freestyle wrestlers traveled to the Rifle Invitational Tournament Rangely took 50 kids to the tournament, which had 324 participants. The Rangely wrestlers walked away with six first place medals: Keenan LeBleu, Travis Halcomb, Casey Rasmussen, Chris Rasmussen, Daniel Bartling and Mike Rasmussen.
