The Wilson Fire north of Meeker off County Road 9 is at approximately 205 acres and 10 percent containment. Command was transferred to a Type 3 fire team and a Wyoming Hot Shot crew working together with ground crews on Sunday.
The Deer Gulch fire is off mile marker 4 on County Road 5. It’s currently at 70 acres and 10 percent containment. Most of the fire is on BLM and a small amount of private land. No structures are threatened at this time. There are 15 smokejumpers and 4 engines working to build a containment line. A Type 1 helicopter will be joining the team in a couple of hours. County Road 5 is currently open, but being monitored on Rio Blanco County Road & Bridge slowing traffic and warning of the smoke. This could change if fire comes down the mountain and creates more smoke hazard.
County officials are expecting thunderstorms this afternoon with possible dry lightning and will be watching all areas for any strikes that might create a fire. If you see any strikes that have started a fire please notify Rio Blanco County Communications Center as soon as possible by calling 911.
An additional fire at mile marker 52 on Hwy. 64 was handled by the Rangely Fire Department Saturday night.
